Problem Description
Decentralization requires open, traceable and repairable hardware. Currently almost all of Ethereum nodes are running in corporate clouds that are privative, opaque, and planned for obsolescence. How can we start changing this trend right now?
The RISC-V instruction set architecture has a free license. This opens space for many of the explorations needed in a decentralized economy, otherwise blocked by the corporations that dominate technology.
This research project involves:
- Learning and teaching about the RISC-V architecture.
- Development of open trusted hardware for the RISC-V architecture.
- Fixing, testing and releasing Ethereum software to run in RISC-V boards.
- Running and maintaining Ethereum nodes in RISC-V boards.
- Packaging Ethereum software for Debian as the main hub for review, compatibility, reproducibility, user testing and distribution.
