Problem Description
It’s anecdotally known that block builders colocate with relays, putting pressure on the geographic decentralization of the MEV supply chain. However, there has been no empirical analysis of this phenomenon and it’s unclear to what extent this gives builders and advantage in auctions. We would like to use public data to glean information about the locations of block builders and demonstrate how the distribution of block builders influences the perception of the relay market.
The geographic distribution of Ethereum validators with the locations of major relays superimposed. Relays are concentrated at hubs with fast intercontinental distribution, while validators remain geographically decentralized.
